For many years Digicast has chosen to outsource the hosting of its platforms, such as icastGo and icastPro, to Amazon Web Services (AWS), mainly in Canada.
AWS is recognized worldwide for the quality of its service, the security of its infrastructure and the diversity of its applications.
Digicast uses a large number of AWS services that can be divided into four types:
- Object storage and databases
- On-line and on-demand encoding
- Running applications
AWS offers several data centres around the world for some of these services. Other services (usually the newest and most innovative), are only available in the largest data centres.
Digicast is aware of the legal issues that the physical location of the data represents for these Canadian customers, and strives to host as much of the data as possible in Canada.
In order to offer the best innovations and to keep our solutions agile and available, some advanced services such as live encoding and Mass Content Distribution (MCD) are hosted as close as possible to the participants' globally distributed networks and can therefore be located outside Canada. For these services, the data has a very short lifespan (a few seconds to a few minutes).
For its entire infrastructure, Digicast ensures that best practices for security and availability are implemented.
